I got hooked on lapbooking when I found this website on all things regarding lapbooks. If you don’t know what lapbooking is please sit back and take a look at the great video here. You will see why these are not only a great learning/teaching tool, but are loads of fun!! Ryan and I have done several so far on reptiles, July 4th, and the Olympics. He loved being able to write his own words on the pages and coloring the pictures that we printed out as well. For the July 4th lapbook we used pictures of his two grandfathers and two uncles that have served our great country. This makes it so personal for him and he loves seeing them all in their uniforms.
There are so many resources online for lapbooking including unit studies at homeschoolshare where you can read a great books and then do lapbooks based on them or any of the other subjects that might be within the story. Most books can be used to make lapbooks as well. We just read “Linnea in Monet’s Garden” by Cristina Bjork. Within this small book we learned about Claude Monet, the great impressionist painter, but we also learned about some of the wonderful sites in France’s cities of Paris and Giverny. Because Monet’s family tree was also discussed in this book we will be doing our family tree as well; what a great way to introduce your child to family that they never even were able to meet. Who knows who might be in your family tree? A President, an actor, a politician..who knows!
I encourage you to try these great little lapbooks, these will be pieces of your child’s education that you can have for years to come and they can use as reference material in the future as well. If you want to join a great lapbooking Yahoo group try this group.
